JOHN GALLAGHER JR IS THE ULTIMATE AWKWARD GUY. But I’m sure you were thinking of Eddie, but if you weren’t (since it’s Leo you mentioned), I’m supplying it now. HAHA.
I actually was thinking of Eddie (napaka obvious ba sa despcription? LOL) but when I read the book I could have sworn it was set in America. Were my eyes interpreting the text wrong? Whoops. I mean the Rocky Horror Picture Show should have already been imported over the Atlantic by that time if Fame was any indicator. I don’t really know for sure since I only borrowed the book and don’t have the comfort of re-reading it right now. But I was trying to stick with American actors. Not that I doubt Eddie’s acting and American accent (from suffering through The Yellow Handkerchief co-starring K Stew, ugh).
BUT OMG JOHNNY! Yes, Johnny would’ve been a really good Charlie since he’s kind of like a less-intense Moritz minus the shooting-himself part and the sexual suffering. Haha.
But back to addressing my general reading population of 6 (sometimes 2):
This book spoke to me even more than Catcher in the Rye (I tend to leave the angst to Billie Joe and my sister). I guess a lot of people say that The Perks of Being a Wallflower is their favorite book, but for me, it’s not the best novel there is in the world. I’ve read better. But if the criteria for picking my favorite piece of literature solely relied on the feelings it evoked and how much I related to the piece, then it would take the top prize.
I guess reading this book is now a cliched, “hipstery” (God, forgive this term) thing around Manille (*insert nakaka-duling na irap here* and then shoot me afterward for my kaconyohan), but I really liked it. And I can’t really properly express why I really liked it without hearing violins play in the background. It gave me the strength to stand high school a little bit more.
So just like `80’s kids who consider Strawberry Shortcake a big part of their lives protesting her `10-friendly makeover, I’d rather not have Logan Lerman doing the speaking. Get him 7000 yards away from this production, please!
